Wm. Ellison Mead Settler In Year 1869
One of the early settlers in the precinct of which Mead is
the principal city today was William Ellison of Ireland who
came to Marietta precinct from Dubuque, Iowa, in June 1869. He
traveled. in a covered wagon with his wife and two small
children. He built his first house of lumber which he hauled
from Ashland and for which he paid sixty dollars per thousand
feet.
